Key Roles and Functions of TCU:
Accreditation and Quality Assurance: TCU is responsible for accrediting universities and ensuring they meet the necessary academic standards. It conducts regular audits and evaluations to maintain and improve the quality of higher education.
Program Approval: Before any university in Tanzania can offer a new program, it must get approval from TCU. The commission assesses whether the program meets the required academic standards and whether the institution has the necessary resources to offer it.
Coordination of Admissions: TCU manages the centralized admission system for universities in Tanzania, known as the Online Application System (OAS). This system ensures a fair and transparent admission process for students entering higher education institutions.
Policy Development: TCU advises the government on higher education policy, including the establishment of new universities and the formulation of policies that affect higher education.
Data Collection and Research: The commission collects data on universities and conducts research to inform decision-making processes and improve the higher education sector in Tanzania.
Recognition of Foreign Qualifications: TCU evaluates and recognizes foreign academic qualifications for individuals who wish to pursue further studies or employment in Tanzania.
