IMLA – STD 4 (Translation in English)

Imla is an important part of the Kiswahili examination for Standard Four pupils. In this section, the teacher or examiner reads a passage aloud, and pupils write down what they hear accurately. The main aim of imla is to assess the pupil’s ability to listen carefully, understand words, and write them with correct spelling. Pupils are tested on the correct use of capital and small letters, punctuation marks such as full stops and commas, and proper sentence structure.

IMLA AND DICTATIONS

Through imla, pupils learn to pay attention to correct pronunciation and to distinguish between words that may sound similar but have different meanings. It also helps them expand their vocabulary and improve their everyday writing skills. In Standard Four exams, imla usually consists of a short passage with a few sentences appropriate to the learner’s level, often based on daily life, the environment, or good morals.

DICTATION – STD 4 (Translation in English)

Dictation is a section of the English subject examination for Standard Four. In this part, the teacher reads a passage or sentences in English, and pupils write exactly what they hear. Dictation tests the pupil’s listening ability, recognition of correct English pronunciation, and accurate spelling. It also checks the proper use of capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns.

Through dictation, pupils strengthen their listening and writing skills. It helps them improve grammar, vocabulary, and sentence construction in English. In Standard Four examinations, dictation usually contains simple sentences and words suitable for the learner’s level, often related to school, family, or everyday activities.
