What is JKT
Before that, between 1972 and 1989, the duties of this Ministry were carried out by the Ministry of State, Office of the Second Vice President. Between 1989 and 1995, the responsibilities of the Ministry were under the Minister of State’s Office of the President. In addition, before the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the Ministry was known as the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry has a great responsibility to Protect the Authority of the United Republic of Tanzania (State Sovereignty) and National Interest (National Interest) against internal and external enemies.
In carrying out these duties, the Ministry has its institutions as follows:-
i. Tanzania People’s Defense Force (JWTZ).
ii. Nation Building Army (JKT).

iii. Training Colleges and Research Institutes.
Objectives
in achieving its responsibility, the objectives of the Ministry of Defense and the Nation Building Force are as follows:-
i. Having a small and smart National Defense Force with expertise, good tools, modern equipment and secure communication;
ii. Continue to build the spirit of patriotism, tenacity, good morals, nationalism and teach them work skills.
iii. To develop research and build capacity in military technologies;
iv. Strengthening the Reserve Army;
v. Assisting Civil Authorities in dealing with disasters;
v. Maintaining peace and security in cooperation with other countries in the world.
